Consultation has concluded. Based on community input through various avenues, staff has recommended that a signalized intersection would be the appropriate intersection control. Recommendation and information will be shared with the City Council for consideration at the 7 p.m., January 14 City Council meeting. This meeting will be held in the Mankato Room at the Intergovernmental Center, 10 Civic Center Plaza.

Preliminary Cherry Street roundabout designNeeded construction work to upgrade underground utilities and surface work place Cherry Street as a priority project to consider for work in Spring 2019.

What are the proposed improvements?

  • replacement of sanitary and storm sewer; domestic water mains
  • updating storm drainage pipes and catch basins
  • new curb and gutter
  • driveway approaches
  • sidewalks
  • street surfacing
  • compact roundabouts at the intersections of Second and Broad Street

What’s the property owner’s responsibility?

Working with a plumber and contractor of choice, property owner is responsible for:

  • Replacement of non-compliant sewer and water services from the right-of-way into property.
  • Hard surfacing of unsurfaced driveways and parking areas (within one year of project completion).

Why is this construction work important?

  • Having Mankato streets in good shape is key to safety and drivability.
  • Compact roundabouts help to safely accommodate traffic and reduce delays in an area with a limited right-of-way.
  • Ensures adequate drainage.
  • Ensures safe and reliable delivery of drinking water for many years to come.
  • Maintains a safe and efficient sewage collection system.
