Since there's limited money available, Mankato’s Community Investment Plan (CIP) is developed as a multi-year plan to identify, prioritize, budget and plan major city projects and improvements.

As the CIP is developed, public input is important and helpful when identifying and prioritizing city projects. Highlighted projects are featured below. A full range of projects and their details are available online in the Preliminary Community Investment Plan for 2023 to 2027.

    The pavement on Augusta Drive (from Augusta Court to east end) and West Sixth Street (from Carney Avenue to Winona Street) will be rehabilitated.

    Reconstruction of Fourth Street (from Walnut to Mulberry streets) consists of replacing watermain, sanitary sewer and stormwater utilities. The road is proposed to be replaced to match its existing width.

    Reconstruction of Pfau Street (from Main Street to Fair Street) will include replacement of watermain, sanitary sewer and stormwater utilities. The road will be replaced to match its existing width and proposes sidewalk installation as identified in the City of Mankato's Critical Sidewalk Link Plan.

    An informational meeting will be held with property owners prior to the feasibility hearing.

    Germania Park Phase 3 focuses on Harper Street (from Third Avenue to the western terminus); Fifth Avenue (from Brooks Street to Harper Street) and Seventh Avenue (from Harper Street to the southern terminus). Most of the City-owned infrastructure is original and between 50 and 75 years old, with a few exceptions--PIne Street and some residential streets on the east side of Third Avenue.

    Before the start of the overall Germania Park project, a comprehensive communications and engagement effort took place with community members in the area.

    The City of Mankato has made an extensive investment in a number of significant public infrastructure facilities adjacent to the Minnesota and Blue Earth rivers, including the Water Resource Recovery Facility, Riverfront Park, the Minnesota River Trail, Sibley Park, the Water Treatment Plant, Land of Memories Park, Well 13 and Well 15. This project is being completed in three phases with a goal of stabilizing the riverbank and is scheduled from 2023 to 2027.

  • Tourtellotte Park Playground

    Tourtellotte Park is scheduled to undergo significant improvements to the pool area. As part of these improvements, the current playground will be upgraded, replacing the current system which was installed in 1994. A communications and public engagement effort will help determine playground features.

    Work to develop pickleball courts in Tourtellotte Park is planned for 2023. This work will be done in conjunction with other improvements tentatively scheduled for the park. This project was rescheduled from 2022.

    A new playground unit is proposed for Erlandson Park. This playground will provide opportunities for those in the Erlandson Park neighborhood access to a play opportunity. The playground will be accessible and in accordance with American Disabilities Act requirements. A communications and public engagement effort will help determine playground features.

  • Thomas Park Playground
